A-Lounge

임현정(b.1987)은 상상 속 내면의 풍경을 주제로 작업한다. 런던 유학 시절 내셔널 갤러리에서 열렸던 다 빈치의 대규모 전시를 보고 르네상스 시기 잉크 드로잉의 사실적이고 복잡다단한 화면 구조에 영감을 받았다. 작가는 주로 보스나 브뢰헬의 회화 속 도상을 빌려와 개인적 경험과 상상력을 가미한 동화적이고 원시적인 무의식의 세계를 창조한다. 아크릴 물감을 주된 매체로 하지만 드로잉 또한 활발히 제작함으로써, 한 지점에서 출발하여 연쇄적으로 연상할 수 있는 무한한 형태들을 점차 확장해나가는 작가의 작업 과정을 작품에 즉각적으로 담아내고자 한다.

국내에서는 에이라운지, 서울(2023)과 OCI 미술관, 서울(2016) 등에서 개인전을 갖은 바 있으며, Pacific Medical Center, 샌프란시스코(2020), James Freeman Gallery, 런던(2105) 등 해외에서도 개인전을 열었다. 주요 단체전으로는 «내면의 풍경», 워싱턴한국문화원, 워싱턴(2023); «자아 아래 기억, 자아 위 꿈», 서울대미술관, 서울(2023); «편집된 풍경», 가나 부산, 부산(2022); «꿈의 대화», 에이라운지, 서울(2020), «모아서 조립하기: 기억극장», 부산시립미술관 어린이미술관, 부산(2018); «난지10기 리뷰전: 보고. 10. 다», SeMA 창고, 서울(2017); «멘토링 2015», 신세계 갤러리 센텀시티, 부산(2015) 등이 있다. 현재는 미국과 한국을 오가며 활동한다.

Lim Hyunjeong (b.1987) works with scenes from inner imagination. During her study in London, Lim was inspired by mega-sized da Vinch Exhibition held at National Gallery, especially with realistic and complex structures in ink drawings from the Renaissance period. The artist borrows icons from Hieronymus Bosch or Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s paintings, then combines personal experiences and imagination to create fairy-tale like and ancient world of unconsciousness. Lim usually works with acrylic paint but also actively creates drawings, which enables her to reflect the expanding process of her works directly by starting from a focal point to a development of an infinite kind of forms that can be associated in chain reaction.

Lim held solo exhibitions in Korea at venues such as A-Lounge, Seoul (2023); and OCI Museum of Art, Seoul (2016); international solo exhibition venues include Pacific Campus of Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco (2020); and James Freeman Gallery, London (2015). For selected group exhibitions, Lim has participated in Landscape of the Mind, Korean Cultural Center, Washington D.C.; Memory Beneath the Ego, Fantasy Above the Ego, Seoul National University Museum of Art, Seoul; Edited Landscape, Gana Busan (currently OKNP), Busan (2022); Dream Believer, A-Lounge, Seoul (2020); Collect and Assemble: Memory Theatre, Busan Museum of Art, Busan (2018), Nanji 10^th Review: Report and Recall, SeMA Storage, Seoul (2017); and Mentoring 2015, Shinsegae Gallery Centum City, Busan (2015). Lim is currently based on both Korea and the United States.
