A-Lounge

손현선 (b.1987)은 사물과 세계의 본질을 가능한 한 완전히, 온전히 ‘보고’ 감각하는 일에 관심을 둔다. 우리가 자기 신체의 능력을 빌어 대상을 바라볼 때, 종종 대상의 전체를 감각하는 데까지 이르지 못하고, 이는 곧 ‘봄’의 결과가, 감각의 결과가 대상의 본질에 가닿지 못한 것임을 작가는 인지한다. 작가에게 회화 작업은 이 같은 불완전한 감각의 세계를 확장해나가는 행위이다. ‘본 것’과 ‘보지 못한 것’이 회화의 표면에 구현되는 결과를 관조함에 따라 회화가 대상의 본질에 가닿을 수 있는 너비와 깊이를 가늠하고, 자신이 상상하고 감각할 수 있는 세계의 너비를 최대치로 확장해나간다.

Son Hyunseon (b.1987) is deeply interested in fully “seeing” and sensing the essence of objects and the world. She observes that when we rely on our physical abilities alone, we often fall short of perceiving an object’s entirety, and that the act of “seeing” does not always reveal its essence. For Son, painting is a way to expand this incomplete experience of sensation. By contemplating the “seen” and the “unseen” on the surface of her paintings, she explores how painting can reach the essence of an object, continually pushing the limits of the world she can imagine and sense.

Son studied two-dimensional art at the Korea National University of Arts in Seoul and has held solo exhibitions at Offset, Seoul (2022); A-Lounge, Seoul (2021); Chapter II, Seoul (2017); and 175 Gallery, Seoul (2016).
