A-Lounge

오유경(b. 1979)의 작품은 주체와 타인, 더 넓게는 사회적 맥락과의 관계, 그리고 인과관계를 표현한다. 상호작용과 순환은 그가 이 세계의 작동 방식을 이해하는 중요한 개념으로 비디오, 조각, 드로잉 등 다양한 매체를 통해 표현된다. “어떤 존재도, 사회도 혼자 저절로 서 있는 것은 없으며 끝없는 사슬의 연결고리로 연결되어 있다”라는 작가의 말처럼 그의 작품 속 개체들의 결합과 중첩은 우리 삶을 구성하는 관계, 사회, 시스템 등을 다시 생각해 보게 만든다. 조각 작품에 사용된 크리스탈과 같은 재료는 작품을 둘러싼 환경이 투영되거나 왜곡되어 보여져 작품을 바라보는 관람자 자신과 주위 환경 간의 관계를 새로운 관점으로 바라볼 수 있게 한다. 한편 <소금 도시>와 같은 비디오 작업이나 드로잉 작업에서는 무너짐과 복원, 원인과 결과, 사건의 발생과 결과, 흔적 등의 과정을 탐구한다.

작가는 2002년 서울시립대학교에서 환경조각학과 학사 학위를, 2006년, 2007년에는 각각 파리8대학 대학원 조형예술학과 석사, 조형예술학(스튜디오: 쥬세페 페노네) 국가학위를 받았다. 쥬세페 페노네 스튜디오에서 공부 후 2008년에는 파리국립고등미술학교(ENSBA)를 졸업하였다. 플레이스막2, 서울(2021); 아트소향, 부산(2020); 챕터투, 서울(2015); OCI 미술관, 서울(2011); 노암갤러리, 서울(2009); 주불한국문화원, 파리(2007)에서 개인전을 가졌다. 참여한 주요 단체전으로는 «강원국제 트리엔날레 2024: 아래로부터의 생태예술», 평창(2024); «추상과 관객», 경남도립미술관, 창원(2024); «에이피 맵 리뷰», 아모레퍼시픽미술관, 서울(2022); «휫 우르르 쉬익», 부산시립미술관 어린이미술관, 부산(2017); «Reload-다시 장전하다», 클레이아크 김해미술관, 큐빅하우스, 김해(2016); «조우», 북서울시립미술관, 서울(2015); «Condensation», 아뜰리에 에르메스, 서울(2014) 등 이 있다. 2008년 프랑스 파리 시떼국제예술 레지던시를 시작으로, 난지창작스튜디오(2009), 인천아트플랫폼(2010), 국립현대미술관 고양창작스튜디오(2012), 경기창작센터(2015) 등에서 레지던시 프로그램에 참여하였으며, 2012년에는 Fondation d’entreprise d’Hermes 아뜰리에 프로그램에 선정된 바 있다.

Oh You Kyeong (b. 1979) explores the relationships between the self and others, as well as broader social contexts and causality. Interaction and circulation are key concepts in her understanding of how the world operates, expressed through various media such as video, sculpture, and drawing. As the artist states, “No being or society stands alone; everything is connected in an endless chain of links.” This idea is reflected in her works, where the fusion and layering of individual elements prompt viewers to reconsider the relationships, social structures, and systems that shape our lives.

In her sculptural works, materials like crystal reflect and distort the surrounding environment, encouraging viewers to perceive their relationship with the artwork and space from a new perspective. Meanwhile, in her video and drawing works, such as Salt City, she delves into themes of collapse and restoration, cause and effect, the emergence of events, and the traces they leave behind.

Oh earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sculpture from the University of Seoul in 2002. She went on to receive a Master’s in Plastic Arts from Paris 8 University in 2006, followed by a Diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique (DNSEP) in 2007, studying under Giuseppe Penone. In 2008, she completed her studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) in Paris.

She has presented solo exhibitions at PlaceMAK2, Seoul (2021); Art SoHyang, Busan (2020); Chapter II, Seoul (2015); OCI Museum of Art, Seoul (2011); Noam Gallery, Seoul (2009); and the Korean Cultural Center in Paris (2007).

Her work has been featured in major group exhibitions, including Gangwon International Triennale 2024: Ecological Art from Below, Pyeongchang (2024); Abstraction and the Audience, Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art, Changwon (2024); AP MAP Review, Amorepacific Museum of Art, Seoul (2022); Hwit Urrur Shwik, Busan Museum of Art Children’s Gallery, Busan (2017); Reload, Clayarch Gimhae Museum, Cube House, Gimhae (2016); Encounter, Buk-Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul (2015); and Condensation, Atelier Hermès, Seoul (2014).

Since 2008, Oh has participated in various residency programs, beginning with the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. She has also been a resident at Nanji Art Studio (2009), Incheon Art Platform (2010), the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art’s Goyang Art Studio (2012), and Gyeonggi Creation Center (2015). In 2012, she was selected for the Fondation d’Entreprise Hermès Atelier Program.
