A-Lounge

이제(b. 1979)는 회화를 통해 개인의 경험과 공동의 기억이 보편적 감각으로 확장되는 지점을 탐구한다. 초기에는 도시 풍경을 중심으로 한 형상회화를 통해 변화하는 시대 속 주체의 감각을 탐색했으며, 이후에는 점차 ‘몸’을 매개로 회화의 경계를 확장해왔다. 여기서 몸은 회화를 그리는 신체이자 시대를 체현하는 존재로서, 작업 전반에서 중요한 조건이자 정치적 감각의 통로로 작동한다. 작가는 바람, 공기, 밤과 같은 비가시적인 조건들을 화면에 호출하며 내적경험이 타인과 세계를 향한 정동으로 전이되는 순간들을 회화적으로 구성한다. 회화를 완결된 결과물이 아닌, 감응과 해석이 지속적으로 발생하는 과정의 장으로 바라보며 이를 통해 연대와 우정, 서로 다른 삶들이 맞닿는 관계망을 형성하고자 한다.

국민대학교 회화과에서 학사 및 석사를 졸업하였고 현재 서울에 거주하며 활발히 활동 중이다. 2019년에는 매년 3명의 회화 작가를 선정하여 창작 활동을 지원하는 종근당 예술지상에 작가로 선정된 바 있다.

Leeje(b. 1979) explores how personal experiences and collective memories converge into universal sensations through painting. While her early figurative paintings of urban landscapes investigated the sensibilities of the subject within a changing era, she has since gradually expanded the boundaries of painting by using the ‘body’ as a medium. In her practice, the body serves as both the physical tool of creation and an embodiment of the times, functioning as a vital condition and a conduit for political sensibility. By bringing invisible conditions such as wind, air and night onto the canvas, she painterly constructs the moments where inner experiences transfer into an affect directed toward others and the world. Viewing painting not as a completed output, but as a field of process where resonance and interpretation continuously emerge, she seeks to weave a network where solidarity, friendship and diverse lives intersect.

Her work has been featured in several solo exhibitions, including shows at A-Lounge Contemporary, Seoul (2023); Space Sansumunwha, Seoul (2021); Chosun Gallery, Seoul (2017, 2014); OCI Museum of Art, Seoul (2010); and Alternative Space Loop, Seoul (2006). Leeje is also an active participant in group exhibitions, with notable appearances in Walkie Talkie Shaking at Art Space Boan, Seoul (2022); With Nature: Still Life and Landscape at Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul (2020); The Funeral Growing Everyday at Post Territory Ujeongguk, Seoul (2019); Twin Peaks at HITE Collection, Seoul (2016); Sixth Sense at OCI Museum of Art, Seoul (2015); Spectators at Doosan Gallery, Seoul (2014); Do Window Vol. 4 at Gallery Hyundai, Seoul (2012); Painters at PKM Gallery, Seoul (2011); and Intuition at Hakgojae Gallery, Seoul (2010).

Leeje received her BA and MA in Fine Art from Kookmin University and currently lives and works in Seoul. In 2019, she was one of three artists selected for the prestigious Chong Kun Dang Art Award, a program supporting creative artists.
