전병구
전병구 (b. 1985)는 일상에서 마주치는 대상과 장면을 캔버스 위로 다시 그려낸다. 눈으로 마주한 장면, 이를 촬영한 사진, 그리고 또다시 캔버스 위로 옮겨가는 이미지는 여러 매체로 재현되고 이동하면서 세부적인 정보는 생략되고 작가가 그 순간에 지녔던 감정이나 감각이 강조된다. 이미지에는 작가의 감정적 변화와 이에 따른 내밀한 상태가 담기게 되고, 단순한 묘사 이상의 의미를 가지게 된다. 단순히 눈에 보이는 대상을 그리는 것이 아니라, 그 순간의 내면을 담아내고자 하는 노력의 일환이다. 명확한 기준보다는 시각적·조형적 흥미로움과 감정적 끌림에 의해 그려진 그의 회화는 외부 세계와의 끊임없는 대화이다.
전병구는 계원조형예술대학 매체예술과를 졸업하고 서울과학기술대학교 일반대학원 조형예술과를 졸업하였다. 이유진 갤러리, 서울(2023, 2021); OCI 미술관, 서울(2018); 스페이스 윌링앤딜링, 서울(2017)에서 개인전을 가졌고, 참여한 단체전으로는 «환기», 누크갤러리, 서울(2024); «SeMA 앤솔러지: 열 개의 주문», 서울시립 북서울미술관, 서울(2023); «re;side», 수원시립아트스페이스광교, 수원(2022); «Coners 3: Cave and Garden», 킵인터치, 서울(2019); «익숙하거나, 혹은 낯선», 교보아트스페이스, 서울(2018) 등이 있다. 가나문화재단, 청주미술창작스튜디오, 인천아트플랫폼, 화이트블럭 천안창작촌 등에서 레지던시를 지냈으며, 서울시립미술관 국립현대미술관 정부미술은행, 경기문화재단, 양주시립장욱진미술관 등에 작품이 소장되어 있다.
Jeon Byungkoo (b. 1985) redraws the objects and scenes he encounters in everyday life onto the canvas. A scene first encountered with his eyes, then photographed, and once again transferred onto the canvas undergoes reproduction and movement across diverse media. In this process, specific details are omitted, while the emotions and sensations that the artist felt at the moment are highlighted. The image captures the artist’s emotional fluctuations and intimate states, acquiring meaning beyond simple depiction. His work is not merely an act of painting what is visible, but an effort to depict the inner world of the moment. Rather than guided by clear criteria, the paintings are drawn by his visual/ configurative interest and emotional attraction, becoming a continuous dialogue with the external world.
He received his BFA from the Department of Media Arts at Kaywon University of Art and Design and his MFA from the Department of Fine Arts at Seoul National University of Science and Technology. He has held solo exhibitions at Lee Eugean Gallery, Seoul (2023, 2021); OCI Museum of Art, Seoul (2018); and Space Willing N Dealing, Seoul (2017). Selected group exhibitions include Hwan-gi, Nook Gallery, Seoul (2024); SeMA Anthology: Ten Spells, Buk-Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul (2023); re;side, Suwon Ipark Art Space Gwanggyo, Suwon (2022); Coners 3: Cave and Garden, Keep in Touch, Seoul (2019); and Familiar or Strange, Kyobo Artspace, Seoul (2018). He has participated in residency programs at the Gana Foundation for Arts and Culture, Cheongju Art Studio, Incheon Art Platform, and White Block Cheonan Art Studio. His works are housed in the collections of the Seoul Museum of Art, the Art Bank of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, and the Yangju City Chang Ucchin Museum of Art.
