A-Lounge

조이솝 (b. 1994)은 욕망, 신체, 감정의 경계를 회화와, 조각, 설치를 통해 탐구한다. 조이솝은 신체를 주요한 조형적 단서로 삼는데, 그의 작업에서 신체는 하나의 완결되고 완전한 형상이 아니라 흩어지고 연결되며 끊임없이 재배열된다. 온라인에서 수집한 이미지, 식물, 레이스, 비즈, 크리스탈, 실리콘 튜브, 샤워호스, 일기장 등 서로 다른 성격의 재료들은 엮이거나 뒤엉켜 하나의 덩어리를 이루고 때로는 공중에 매달린 형태로 제시된다. 공적 영역과 사적 영역, 주관과 객관 사이의 모순과 불확실성의 세계를 사유하며, 그가 사랑한 사람과 사물 속에서 자신의 욕망과 감정의 흔적을 되짚고 성찰한다.

Cho Leesop (b. 1994) explores the boundaries of desire, body and emotion through painting, sculpture and installation. Featuring the body as a primary formal element, Cho presents the body not as a complete, whole figure but as something scattered, connected and continuously rearranged. Various materials such as images sourced from the internet, plants, laces, beads, crystals, silicone tubing, shower hoses, diaries, are woven together or entangled, merging into a single mass, or sometimes displayed as a hanging structure. Contemplating the world of contradiction and uncertainty of public and private sphere, the subjective and the objective, he traces his own desire and emotion through the people and objects he has love, reflecting on them in turn.

Cho Leesop earned BFA and MFA in sculpture from Seoul National University and has held solo exhibitions at Caption Seoul, Seoul (2025); Cylinder, Seoul (2023); and the Kim Chong Yung Museum, Seoul (2022). Selected group exhibitions include Dialogue: Unconfirmed Reception, Hwigyeomjae, Seoul (2025); Rooms of Convergence, Whistle × Shower, Seoul (2025); Sad Caption: Everything Was Swept Away, and I Can’t Write Any Word After “Sad,” but…, SeMA Bunker, Seoul (2024); Hanging Garden, Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) Nam-Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul (2023); Waiting Room, Suchi, Seoul (2022); and Bony, Museumhead, Seoul (2021). Beginning with his selection as a 2022 Grant-Supported Artist at the Kim Chong Yung Museum, he has since received further awareds and selection, including Doosan Art Lab, Doosan Gallery (2023); Seongbuk N Artist, Seongbuk Young Art Space (2023); and Almanac: 50 Contemporary Artists in Korea, APATHEACTS (2023).
