Lim Hyunjeong (b.1987) explores imagined inner landscapes in her work. While studying in London, she was inspired by a large-scale da Vinci exhibition at the National Gallery, particularly drawn to the realistic and intricate structures of Renaissance ink drawings. Lim often incorporates iconography from painters like Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel the Elder, blending these references with personal experiences and imagination to create a fairytale-like, primal world of the unconscious. Working primarily in acrylic but also actively producing drawings, she captures the organic evolution of her creative process as it expands from a focal point into an endless array of interconnected forms.

Lim earned her M.F.A. in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins College of Arts & Design and her B.F.A. in Painting from Seoul National University. She has held solo exhibitions in Korea at venues such as A-Lounge, Seoul (2023), and the OCI Museum of Art, Seoul (2016); she has also shown internationally at venues including the Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco (2020), and the James Freeman Gallery, London (2015). Selected group exhibitions include Inner Landscape, Korean Cultural Center, Washington D.C. (2023); Memory Beneath the Ego, Fantasy Above the Ego, Seoul National University Museum of Art, Seoul (2023); Edited Landscape, Gana Busan (currently OKNP), Busan (2022); Dream Conversation, A-Lounge, Seoul (2020); Collect and Assemble: Memory Theatre, Busan Museum of Art Children’s Museum, Busan (2018); Nanji 10th Review: Report and Recall, SeMA Storage, Seoul (2017); and Mentoring 2015, Shinsegae Gallery Centum City, Busan (2015). Lim currently divides her time between Korea and the United States.
