Z.T. 응우옌 (Z.T. Nguyễn, b. 1997)은 주로 드로잉과 설치를 중심으로 작업하고 있다. 신체와 밤의 공간, 청바지, 주머니칼, 신화 등의 소재를 통해 사유, 욕망, 친밀함, 디아스포라 등의 경험을 시각화한다. 그는 접거나 이동이 쉬운 종이의 물리적 특성을 활용해 이주 경험의 불안정함과 유동성을 표현하며, 접히고 구겨진 종이 위의 붉은 드로잉과 설치는 사적인 친밀함과 공적 권력 구조 사이의 긴장을 탐구하는 동시에 퀴어적 정체성과 문화적 소속감의 양가성을 드러낸다. 강제 이주를 포함한 개인적 경험을 바탕으로 개인적 서사와 사회적 역사, 욕망과 권력의 관계를 섬세하게 교차시킨다.

Z.T. 응우옌은 브라운 대학교에서 동아시아학을, 로드아일랜드 디자인스쿨(RISD)에서 역사, 철학, 사회과학에 대한 집중; 텍스타일 분야의 학제 간 연구를 전공하였고, 이후 예일대학교에서 회화&판화 석사 학위를 취득하였다. Z.T. Nguyễn (b. 1997) primarily works in drawing and installation. Through explorations of the body, night spaces, jeans, pocket knives, and mythology, he visualizes experiences of thought, desire, intimacy, and diaspora. He employs the physical qualities of foldable and portable letter-size paper to convey the instability and fluidity of migration experiences, while his red drawings and installations on folded and crumpled letter-size paper investigate the tension between private intimacy and public structures of power, revealing the ambivalence of queer identity and cultural belonging. Drawing on personal experiences, including forced migration, he delicately intersects individual narratives with social history, desire, and the dynamics of power.

Z.T. Nguyễn studied in the East Asian Studies department at Brown University and completed a BFA in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), with a Concentration in History, Philosophy & Social Sciences and an Interdisciplinary Study Option in Textiles. He later earned an MFA in Painting & Printmaking from Yale University. He has held solo exhibitions at Island, New York (2025), and participated in group exhibitions including Surface Tension; or, Four Theses on the Nature of Desire: Part II – TENSION, PTT Space, Taipei (2025); Power Line: Yale School of Art, Perrotin, New York (2025); Architectures of Intimacy, NARS Foundation, Brooklyn (2025); Cẩm nang sử dụng: Cuộc đời, Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA), Hà Nội (2024); (Im)material Ruins, Asia Art Archive in America (AAA-A), Brooklyn (2023); Speeding Up, Slowing Down, Kunstraum LLC, Brooklyn (2021); and Subtle Speaks, Textile Arts Center, Brooklyn (2020). He received the Becky Westcott Memorial Painting Award from RISD in 2019 and a City Artist Corps Grant from the New York Foundation for the Arts in 2021. From 2019-2020, Nguyễn was an Artist-in-Residence at the Textile Arts Center and in 2022 he participated in the Leadership Camp organized by Asia Art Archive in America in Brooklyn.
