Chung Soohyun (b. 2001) creates paintings that are grounded in realistic conditions, such as calculated light and shadow on the finely processed wooden structure and canvas frame. Juxtaposing reductive iconography with realistic objects, the results evoke imaginary scenes that extend beyond reality. Especially, bringing the supporting frames and structures of the painting to the front, borders between painting and structure, interior and exterior of the screen, reality and illusion intersect. At this point of intersection, rather than presenting a decided form, she balances through continuous dissolution and adjustment. By capturing the physical tension sustained by the structure, the air flowing between the spaces, subtle trembling and tension, she creates sensory field that continuously breathe within the frozen image.

Chung Soohyun earned both a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Western Painting from Ewha Womans University. She has participated in various group exhibitions, including Shift, AWASE Gallery, Tokyo (2026); Orthogonal Play, COSO, Seoul, (2025); Wild Bunch vol 2, This Weekend Room, Seoul, (2025); G-force: Remember the Collision Point, Ewha Womans University, Seoul, (2024); and Pointedness Rolls, Sidaeyeogwan, Seoul, (2024). She was also a recipient of the ChunMan Art for Young award in (2025).
