A-Lounge

황선영 (b.1988)은 신체적·심리적 층위를 탐구하며, 화면의 표면과 그 이면에 존재하는 층들을 시각적으로 구성해낸다. 그녀의 작업은 내면에 축적된 생각, 감정, 기억, 인상 등이 무의식적으로 흐르는 감각을 반영하며, 이를 물질적인 형태로 구체화한다. 이러한 과정을 통해 황선영은 표면 아래 존재하는 비논리적이고 은유적인 세계를 포착한다.
2012년 런던대학교(UCL) 슬레이드 미술대학교 회화과를 졸업 후, 2016년 왕립예술학교에서 석사 학위를 취득했다. 현재 런던과 서울을 오가며 작업 중이며, 에이라운지, 서울(2024); Grove, 런던(2021); 갤러리 이알디, 서울(2019); Nunnery Gallery, 런던(2018)에서 개인전을 가졌다. 단체전으로는 «Apricity», No. 9 Cork Street FRIEZE, 런던(2024); «Art On a Postcard International Women’s Day Auction», The Bomb Factory, 런던(2024); «The Way of All Flesh», The Saatch Gallery, 런던(2024); «Papier», Delphian Gallery, 프랑스(2023); «That Wilderness Within», PRIOR Art Space, 바르셀로나(2022) 등에 참여하였으며, 2018년에는 The Ingram Collection, 런던에 선정되었고, 2016년에는 Chadwell Award를, 2011년에는 Steer Memorial Prize를 영국에서 수상하였다.

Hwang Sunyoung (b. 1988) explores physical and psychological layering in her work, creating a sense of strata beneath and within the picture plane. Her practice reflects the unconscious flow of internalized thoughts, emotions, memories, and impressions, which she materializes into tangible forms. Through this process, Hwang captures the incoherent and metaphorical nature of what lies beneath the surface.

After graduating with a degree in Painting from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London (UCL) in 2012, the artist received a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in 2016. Currently living and working between London and Seoul, they have held solo exhibitions at A-Lounge, Seoul (2024); Grove, London (2021); Gallery ERD, Seoul (2019); and Nunnery Gallery, London (2018).
Selected group exhibitions include Apricity, No. 9 Cork Street FRIEZE, London (2024); Art On a Postcard International Women’s Day Auction, The Bomb Factory, London (2024); The Way of All Flesh, Saatchi Gallery, London (2024); Papier, Delphian Gallery, France (2023); and That Wilderness Within, PRIOR Art Space, Barcelona (2022). Additionally, the artist’s work was selected for The Ingram Collection, London in 2018, and they were awarded the Chadwell Award in 2016 and the Steer Memorial Prize in 2011 in the UK.
